Open Doors on the River Draws Over 200 Guests, Raises Substantial Funds for Rotary Scholarships
ALEXANDRIA BAY, N.Y. — The Rotary Club of Alexandria Bay's inaugural Open Doors on the River homes tour was a resounding success, drawing more than 200 guests to Comfort Island for an afternoon of history, architecture, and community spirit.
Guests traveled by Uncle Sam Boat Line to tour two of the island's landmark estates: the Clark Mansion, built in 1883 and home to Impressionist murals by artist Alson Skinner Clark, and Neh-Mahbin, built in 1886 by James H. Oliphant. The rare opportunity to step inside these private Thousand Islands treasures proved to be a major draw for both longtime residents and visitors to the region.
The event raised substantial funds to support the Rotary Club of Alexandria Bay's scholarship fund, which provides financial assistance to local students pursuing trade school educations. Beyond financial support, the Rotary will also mentor scholarship recipients as they pursue their education and launch their careers.
"The inaugural Open Doors on the River house tour was a huge success both in terms of monies raised and in terms of people enjoying the tour. We are already making plans for another great tour in 2027," said Dan Randall, chair.
