More than 300 people participated in the Rotary Club of Alexandria Bay’s first weekend of “Dunkin’ for a Cause,” a new community fundraiser that brought local organizations, volunteers and residents together for a day of fundraising, friendly competition and plenty of splashes.

And the fun isn’t over yet.

Dunkin’ for a Cause returns Labor Day weekend giving community members another opportunity to participate, support local organizations and send some familiar faces into the dunk tank.

Rather than raising funds for Rotary alone, “Dunkin’ for a Cause” was created as a collaborative community fundraiser. Local organizations provided volunteers and brave representatives willing to take a turn in the dunk tank, while donations generated through their participation were shared between Rotary and local organizations and causes.

Organizations participating in the first weekend included River Hospital, Macsherry Library, Hearts for Youth, Girl Scout Troop #61228, PAYIT, United Methodist Church of Alexandria Bay, Gordon Court, and Alexandria Central School.

Several additional community organizations were chosen as beneficiaries, including the Alexandria Bay Fire Department, New York State Park Police, ACS Booster Club, Alexandria Bay Boy Scouts, Coast Guard Auxiliary, and Wellesley Island Fire Department.

With more than 300 participants joining in, the first weekend turned the simple idea of a dunk tank into a true community event. Friends, families and neighbors had the chance to send familiar local faces splashing into the water—all while raising money and awareness for organizations that serve the Thousand Islands community.

“Dunkin’ for a Cause was really about bringing people together,” said a representative of the Rotary Club of Alexandria Bay. “We wanted to create something that was fun for the community while also giving local organizations an opportunity to raise money and bring attention to the work they do. The turnout for our first weekend was wonderful, and we hope even more people will come out and join us Labor Day weekend.”

The Rotary Club invites residents, visitors, families and local organizations to join the second weekend of Dunkin’ for a Cause on Saturday, September 5, and Sunday, September 6.

Whether you come to take a shot at the dunk tank, volunteer, cheer on a dunkee or simply support a favorite local organization, it’s an opportunity to have some fun while giving back to the community.

The Rotary Club of Alexandria Bay extends its thanks to all of the participating organizations, beneficiaries, volunteers, dunkees, donors and more than 300 community members who helped make the first weekend a success.
